Drones have increased in popularity and functionality over recent years, but they are still very limited in the commercial domain due to the safety implications they pose.

Team 18 and Nevada Dynamics plan to use ADS­-B readings and an algorithm using polar math, great circle calculations, and carefully designed thresholds to detect and avoid collisions with fast­-moving aircraft by adjusting a drone’s path or simply stopping the drone before any overlap in airspace occurs.
